Welcome to Motel
Our story began during a road trip in the 1990s, where our founders, Will and Andy, travelled across America collecting vintage items while living out of motels. They started purchasing vintage clothing in the USA and selling it wholesale, which eventually led to the creation of stores. From there, they began designing reworked vintage pieces, and thus, Motel was born.
Over 30 years and a team of 200+ people later, every piece of clothing we make is created with the same spirit of fun, freedom and adventure as the road trip that first defined the brand. We’re still ambitious and independent, but now we’re a global team - we work from an operational base in Worcester, a design studio in London and a creative studio in Bali.
The role
To ensure all fabric, trims, accessories, and garment-related developments are sourced, developed, and delivered in line with design intent, quality standards, and timeline requirements, while providing suitable alternatives when needed.
Ensure all fabric, trims, accessories, and garment developments align with design intent, quality standards, cost targets, and timelines.
Provide reliable sourcing solutions, including suitable alternatives when required items are unavailable or not feasible.
Support smooth product development and production readiness through effective trims and material management.
Contribute to continuous improvement in sourcing through supplier optimisation, cost efficiency, and innovation.
Main tasks & responsibilities
Review and action all development handovers related to fabric, trims and accessories, ensuring full understanding of design requirements and timelines.
Source suitable trims and accessories (buttons, zippers, buckles, O-rings, D-rings, poppers, etc.) in line with design, cost, and quality expectations.
Proactively propose alternative options (materials, shapes, colours, finishes) when original requests are unavailable or not feasible.
Manage the development process of fabric, trims, including woven labels, hangtags, care labels, and packaging from sampling to approval.
Liaise with suppliers to request samples, follow up on developments, and ensure timely delivery.
Evaluate and approve samples against design intent, quality standards, and bulk production requirements.
Maintain and update trim libraries, supplier databases, and development records.
Work closely with design, product development, and production teams to ensure smooth communication and alignment.
Monitor lead times and ensure all fabric, trims and accessories are delivered in line with critical path timelines.
Support cost optimisation by negotiating with suppliers and identifying alternative sourcing options where possible.
Ensure fabric, trims and accessories comply with brand standards, testing requirements, and relevant regulations.
Support Motel's sustainability initiatives by considering how our practices can improve, actively working in line with the sustainability journey of the business.
