Welcome to Motel

Our story began during a road trip in the 1990s, where our founders, Will and Andy, travelled across America collecting vintage items while living out of motels. They started purchasing vintage clothing in the USA and selling it wholesale, which eventually led to the creation of stores. From there, they began designing reworked vintage pieces, and thus, Motel was born.

Over 30 years and a team of 200+ people later, every piece of clothing we make is created with the same spirit of fun, freedom and adventure as the road trip that first defined the brand. We’re still ambitious and independent, but now we’re a global team - we work from an operational base in Worcester, a design studio in London and a creative studio in Bali.

The role

Our Sample Development Assistant will help the sample development process by coordinating materials, tracking progress, liaising with suppliers and ensuring quality samples are delivered on time.

Main tasks & responsibilities

• Hand over the separated and organized style pages to the factory, ensuring all required technical information is included and clearly communicated

• Maintain regular communication with the factory to follow up on sample progress and ensure the development process is carried out accurately and meets the agreed timelines

• Provide support during sample fitting sessions and document all required adjustments for further sample revisions.

• Coordinate with internal departments, such as merchandising and production, to clarify any unclear instructions from the buyer before proceeding with sample development

• Update the range plan and all related slides with the most recent information and revisions following the fitting session

• Store samples that are currently in development or already approved before handing them over to the studio team for photoshoots

• Chase and confirm the latest prices with the factory, and update the provided pricing slides accordingly to reflect accurate and current cost information.

• Prepare and organize the required samples in advance for weekly meetings, ensuring all items are complete and ready for presentation or discussion

• Support Motel's sustainability initiatives by considering how our practices can improve, actively working in line with the sustainability journey of the business.

About you

• Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

• Excellent English communication skills (both written and verbal) is essential.

• Required Skill(s): administration, time management, follow-up, and problem-solving.

• Honest, good attitude, strong initiative, and willing to learn.

• Experience in sample development or fashion production is a plus, but not required.
