Welcome to Motel

Our story began during a road trip in the 1990s, where our founders, Will and Andy, travelled across America collecting vintage items while living out of motels. They started purchasing vintage clothing in the USA and selling it wholesale, which eventually led to the creation of stores. From there, they began designing reworked vintage pieces, and thus, Motel was born.

Over 30 years and a team of 200+ people later, every piece of clothing we make is created with the same spirit of fun, freedom and adventure as the road trip that first defined the brand. We’re still ambitious and independent, but now we’re a global team - we work from an operational base in Worcester, a design studio in London and a creative studio in Bali.

The role

Our Cutting Specialists help to bring Motel's designs to life. With a thorough understanding of fabrics, patterns and the manufacturing process, our Cutting Specialists not only make our designs a reality but help to maintain standards of high quality fashion for Motel. 

Main tasks & responsibilities

• Understand the designs, patterns, and sizes provided by the design or production department.
• Check the material specifications to be used, including the type of fabric and its thickness.
• Measure and inspect fabrics to ensure sufficient quantity for production.
• Smooth fabrics to avoid folds or wrinkles that could affect the cutting results.
• Cut fabrics according to the patterns.
• Ensure that the cutting results are free from defects such as tears, incorrect sizes, or inconsistent shapes.
• Identify and correct cuts that do not meet the standards.

About you

• Minimum 1-2 years of experience as a cutting specialist in the garment industry.
• Experience working with various types of fabrics such as cotton, polyester, denim, and others.
• Ability to read and understand patterns.
• Skilled in using fabric cutting tools such as industrial scissors, automatic cutting machines, and manual cutters.
• Knowledge of fabric cutting techniques to minimise waste (waste management).
